What's included

Personalized cough, cold, and flu treatment plans may include over-the-counter treatment recommendations, online prescriptions, and self-care strategies. Prescriptions for antiviral medications like oseltamivir (Tamiflu) (to treat flu) and antibiotics (to treat strep throat or bacterial sinus infections) aren’t guaranteed.

The common cold is a self-limited virus that will resolve on its own without prescription cold medicine. In many cases, a clinician will recommend over-the-counter cold treatments for symptom relief.

You can message your clinician with follow-up questions for 14 days after you get your treatment plan.
Concerned about more than cold and flu symptoms?
Can I get antibiotics through Amazon Clinic?
If your symptoms indicate a bacterial infection, your clinician may prescribe antibiotics. It's important to know, however, that most upper respiratory infections (URIs) are caused by viruses. Antibiotics don't alter the course of viruses.

The inappropriate use of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance, when bacteria evolve to become harder to treat. The World Health Organization (WHO) describes antibiotic resistance as a global threat to human health.
Commonly prescribed medications
When medically appropriate, your clinician may prescribe an antiviral flu medication like oseltamivir (Tamiflu), COVID-19 medication like Paxlovid, or strep throat medication like antibiotics.

What types of symptoms can't be treated through Amazon Clinic?
The following symptoms may indicate a need for immediate medical attention:
• Dizziness or feeling like you might faint
• Heart palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat)
• Inability to swallow saliva or other fluids
• Mental symptoms like confusion
• Moderate to severe shortness of breath
• Neck stiffness and pain

Can I get sinusitis treatment through Amazon Clinic?
Yes. If you have sinusitis, also known as rhinosinusitis, you can start a visit through Amazon Clinic's Sinus infection (sinusitis) treatment page. If you don't know if your symptoms are caused by sinusitis or something else (like allergies, the common cold, or the flu), you can start your medical consultation here, through Cough, cold, and flu treatment.

If any of the following statements apply to you, you'll need to see a trusted healthcare provider like a primary care physician (PCP) for more closely managed care:
• You've had 3 or more sinus infections in the past year
• You've been hospitalized in the past week
• You've taken oral antibiotics in the past month
• Your sinus symptoms have returned after being treated with antibiotics
• You've had sinus symptoms for longer than a month
These experiences can make sinus infection treatment more complex.
Can I get treated for an ear infection through Amazon Clinic?
No. If you're experiencing ear pain or pressure, a trusted healthcare provider like a primary care physician (PCP) will need to examine your ear canal in person. These symptoms can indicate an inner ear infection.
What happens if my clinician can't diagnose or treat my health issue?
If your clinician can’t diagnose or treat your health issue through Amazon Clinic, they may recommend that you see a primary care physician (PCP) or a specialist for in-person care. If that happens, you won't be charged for your visit.
What types of visit can I have?
Video visits are available in all 50 states and D.C. Message-only visits are available in 34 states. To see your visit options, first choose your state.
