Your clinician can help determine if your sinus infection is bacterial or viral. A bacterial infection can be treated with antibiotics. If you’ve had symptoms for less than a week, it may be too early to tell, which means your clinician may recommend a wait-and-see approach. Your clinician can recommend over-the-counter treatments during this time. If your symptoms don't improve, you might be a candidate for antibiotics.
Can I get antibiotics?
Probably not. Almost all sinus infections are caused by viruses, which don't respond to antibiotics. Your clinician will review your symptoms and health history to determine which (if any) treatments are medically necessary for you.
