What's included

Personalized treatment plans may include prescription medication to help control a hormone associated with male pattern baldness. Your clinician may also recommend over-the-counter treatments and self-care strategies. They won’t prescribe platelet-rich plasma treatments, light therapy, or natural supplements, or give advice on hair transplant surgery. They also won’t prescribe dutasteride (Avodart) or minoxidil in oral (pill or tablet) form. You can message your clinician with follow-up questions for 14 days after you get your treatment plan.

If you need treatment for an additional health condition, you’ll need to start a separate visit.

Based on your health information, your clinician may recommend that you see a healthcare provider in person. If that happens, you’ll still be charged for your visit. Amazon Clinic doesn’t accept insurance at this time, and isn’t intended for beneficiaries of government payor programs, including Medicare and Medicaid.

Frequently asked questions

What types of hair loss can be treated through Amazon Clinic?
Your clinician can treat classic male pattern baldness, which means you've started losing hair at your temples or the crown of your head.
What medications can I get?
Your clinician can prescribe an oral medication called finasteride (Propecia, Proscar).

Please note: This information is for general reference only. Your clinician will review your symptoms and health history to determine which (if any) treatments are medically necessary.
What are the possible side effects of different hair loss treatments?
Finasteride is usually well tolerated, but can occasionally have sexual side effects. The sexual side effects include a small risk (<5%) of decreased libido, decreased ejaculatory volume, and erectile dysfunction (ED). These side effects usually go away after stopping the medication.

Minoxidil (Rogaine) is an over-the-counter medication that's usually well tolerated. Rarely, it can irritate the scalp or increase facial hair growth where it's applied.

Camouflaging agents are available over the counter, and are used to reduce the appearance of hair loss. They come in different forms (powders, fibers, sprays) and may cause scalp irritation.
Can Amazon Clinic treat female hair loss?
Not at this time. To determine what's causing hair loss in women, clinicians usually need testing that's not currently available through Amazon Clinic.
